I want to see Jesus in my whole life. Not just in church. Not even just during my private devotions.
I want to see Him while I’m doing dishes, while I’m caring for my screaming baby, while I’m chugging that much-needed morning coffee.
I want to notice His smile when I curl up with my favorite book, when I go grocery shopping, or when I connect with my husband.
Why not? Jesus is a real Person and He’s always watching me. I’m curious–what is He thinking? If I look closely enough, will I notice Him laughing when I laugh? Or hugging me as I cry myself to sleep?
Those mornings that I peel myself off the bed, wondering how I’ll ever make it another step… How many times has He immediately filled me with Morning Mercy and I didn’t even notice?
How many times has He carried me across my own house in His arms and I thought I was walking alone?
If I manage to scramble into my seat in time, Church is where I can get a few blissful moments to glimpse this love He has for me. But then, that awareness seems to stay in that seat as I drag my weary soul home once again.
God, help me to see You working in the little, dreary, mundane moments of my daily life!
My favorite song in the whole world is “Amazed.” It starts out with “You dance over me while I am unaware. You sing all around but I never hear that sound.” The second verse goes like this: “You paint the morning sky with miracles in mind. My hope will always stand for you hold me in Your hand.”
Creation shows God’s daily love for us and also demonstrates His character. To see more of God working in my life, I think it’s a great place to start.
Sometimes I go back to read through Genesis 1, the Creation story. There’s something very comforting about “God said, ‘Let there be light!’ and there was light. And God saw that the light was good.”
God simply spoke and there it was! I can thank Him for the light in my life, both physical and spiritual. Every time I turn on a light or enjoy the sunshine, I can think of Him. He brought this light specifically to me, at this moment, just for me.
Paul later says in 2 Corinthians that the SAME God who said, “Let there be light!” also said “Let there be light!” in my heart to reveal Jesus to me. The SAME God who is powerful enough to create light for me right NOW is also able to shine the Light of Jesus in my heart too:
“For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus,” (2 Cor. 4:6 ESV).
That’s just the first one! The rest of the Creation account is so encouraging too. It helps me take a step back and realize just how much mercy, faithfulness, and power it takes to make every day even possible!
Scripture reveals the character of Jesus through Creation many times:
“As high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does He remove our transgressions from us,” (Ps 104:11-12 ESV).
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people,” (Ps 125:2 ESV).
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty,” (Is. 55:10-11 ESV).
“Lift up your eyes and see: who created these? He who brings out [the stars] by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of His might and because He is strong in power not one is missing. Why do you say… ‘My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God? [He’s forgotten about me]… They who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles…” (Is 40:26-27 ESV).
What are some of your favorite encouraging Creation scriptures? Mine has always been Psalm 139! “You formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb… Your eyes saw my unformed substance,” (ESV).
