My Beauty Routine and Why I Joined Avon

November 20, 2018 by Tia Leave a Comment

(Disclaimer: I’m an Avon Independent Sales Representative, so if you order through my online store I will get a return off the sale at no extra cost to you!).

If I were honest, I joined Avon because I not only needed a home job, but I also needed a new beauty routine. Contrary to what some sermons or well-meaning inspirational posts may tell you, your personal beauty routine is NOT just about looking good for other people. Am I right, ladies?

After years of living without a real beauty routine, I now know just how much it means to us.

My Beauty Routine and Why I Joined Avon

Saving Money VS Beauty Routine?

In our journey to get out of debt and saving for our kid, my husband and I have had to live without a LOT of things. Saying “no” to buying stuff is so routine, it’s automatic now. I feel guilty for even looking at simple kitchen things I need–like a garlic mincer (I’m obsessed with garlic!). We still need dining chairs that aren’t metal folding chairs and don’t put my legs to sleep.

For clothes, my closet has been pretty much converted to Goodwill now. A few dollars a month has gotten me some decent outfits. It’s better than nothing!

For a cheap date, we bought some decorations at the Dollar Store and a meal from Aldis. Both of us dressed up nice and ate under candlelight.

But there’s not really a “Goodwill” for makeup and other beauty routine things. Yes, you can get the $1 eyeliner at Dollar Tree, but SERIOUSLY that stuff sucks! I’ve tried it and it feels AWFUL. It’s like scraping tree bark on my face!

Expectations VS Reality

If I’m getting ready for a date with my hubby, or a special holiday party, or a family get-together, or just a day out shopping, there are so many emotions that go into my beauty routine:

I want this day to be special.
I’m taking some time to enjoy my body and enjoy my style.
I’m putting on a fresh, positive face so bad things don’t weigh me down.
I just need this moment of privacy for myself for once.
Feeling great will give me more confidence when approaching people.
I can stand out and show people my true self.
I want to be daring and try new things.
I believe looking healthy and vibrant goes well with living healthy and vibrant. Maybe I can inspire others to do the same.

But when I look in the mirror after applying my cheap, past-due makeup with my barely touched hair, this is what I feel instead:

My skin is so dry and spotted and the foundation seems to make it worse. I need facial care and maybe some primer.
My foundation doesn’t seem to be the right color. But I spent so much on it and I can’t take it back!
This eyeliner needs sharpening but I don’t have a sharpener. My “wings” look like “oops” instead.
I think my mascara is too old. Something is burning my eyes. I wish I could just go without any makeup. It feels “heavy” on my face, weirdly enough. I don’t like feeling like I’m literally wearing a stone mask on my face.
My makeup brushes aren’t the right size or shape and my favorite one broke weeks ago. I try to make due, but I still look like a clown.
I still don’t have any blush. No one will notice, right? I don’t look like a porcelain china doll?
How do I use highlights? If I had any, that is.
I don’t like any of these eyeshadow colors, but they’re all I’ve got.
Something might happen that will mess up my makeup and make me look bad, but how do I fit all of my makeup in my purse? They’re all so bulky! I could use a travel kit.
Well, I guess I’ll just have to pretend no one will notice. Beauty is on the inside and blah, blah, blah…

My Beauty Routine Needs a “Facelift”

I dread doing any sort of beauty routine. Most days, I just brush my hair and put on deodorant. That’s it. Makeup is not only uncomfortable, but I don’t feel LESS pretty in it than I do without it. Why even bother?

I’ve been thinking a lot about my “beauty routine.” Life is really stressful, especially when you have kids. The BEST stress-management advice out there is to take time to enjoy yourself and do something for yourself. As someone still recovering from depression, taking time to enjoy yourself is a BIG DEAL. It’s not an option to just go without it! When I don’t take time just for myself, the closer I am to slipping back into self-hatred and self-harm.

Drowning in “I’m just not good enough” and “I’m worthless” is not fun! Taking action is the key to breaking it. Physically getting up and doing something that counters that lie has done wonders for me! One of the best ways to counter it is to simply enjoy myself… but that’s the problem. I don’t know what I enjoy. Not really. Feelings of pleasure are scarce and hard to come by, so it’s hard to tell what I even enjoy.

Until I get to know my “positive self” better, a great place to start is with something that almost EVERY woman feels great doing: a Beauty Routine.

A beauty routine is not just about looking great. It’s about feeling great. It’s about doing great.

When I’m finished, I look in the mirror and enjoy my own smile and my own dazzle. The best part? I made it happen! I did something that made my own life better! I made a difference, however small. Now I can go out and make a difference in someone else’s life too.

Why Avon?

Avon True Color Essentials

  1. With Avon, I can get my beauty supplies shipped to my door! You can too if you shop at my online store!
  2. Avon has great resources, training, and business supplies to support my business. I don’t have to worry about looking professional or knowing what to say. They take care of all of that for me so I can just run my business how I want to run it. The freedom to just be me is amazing!
  3. With my online store, I can work from home and help people from anywhere in the US! The whole country is my playground. That takes the pressure off competing with other local Avon Reps. I can simply sell somewhere else.
  4. There’s NO pressure to sell! The minimum to order is every 6 campaigns. That’s once every 3 months!
  5. I’m passionate about making a difference in the world. Avon believes in that too! They support the fight against breast cancer. They also have an awesome fundraiser program that allows me to raise money for any Cause I like! Their professional presentation tools and training give me the confidence to approach a big organization, a school group, or even just a family in desperate need. The BEST part about it is that ALL the sales from the fundraiser count towards my leadership status! I may not make any money, but I will still rise in ranks.
  6. I like their products! I enjoy having them as part of my brand-new beauty routine. I especially like their serum! But they sell much more than makeup. They have men’s products, decorations, outfits, jewelry, nutrition, and more!
  7. The Starter Kit to join was just $25. That deal sounded so good (compared to other company’s startup kit costs) that I had to give it a shot. I can easily make that much back in return. If it doesn’t work out, I won’t lose anything if I walk away.
  8. Having a discount on makeup as well as an extra paycheck means, at the very least, I’ll be able to afford to buy makeup! I can finally have a beauty routine!

You’re invited to join me! I’ll personally walk you through everything to help get you started. I have an AWESOME support team, so if you have questions I can’t answer, I will put you in touch with those who can!

If you’d like to try out the products, feel free to have a look around my store.
